Entertainer also uses other great projects like SQLite, pyIMDBb and iNotify.

This just looks like apple TV and by the time that you setup, install, configure and customize this wouldn’t it be easier to drop $229 at an apple store to get the same effect. I mean, really, how much is your personal time worth to you?

^^ Well you don’t have to customize this .. Just install from the source code and bingo it works out of the box considering you have installed media coders
and the best part you don’t have to spend a penny in this gr8 player

I too think Sharp’s comment is a little insane. I agree about the look being a copy of AppleTV, but who wouldn’t prefer the FOSS alternative to that?
OK, dumb question! Anyway, *I’d* prefer the FOSS alternative. =)

There’s a world out there beyond the USA, where there is no Apple Store, and where $229.00 is a lot of money (about a month wage)

Hopefully, as development continues, Entertainer will have a bigger feature set than Apple TV.
Also, a lot of the configuration is automatic, ie video files are recognised automatically and categorised and you can import your rss feeds with two buttons clicks from liferea.
Also about installation, I’m optimistic about us being able to package it for ubuntu, so installation will eventually be as simple as sudo apt-get entertainer

Dark Star-
Thanks for posting about us! I’m one of a few of the entertainer developers, and we’ve had TONS of progress in the last two weeks. As far as Sharp’s comment, I know what you mean with not wanting to configure everything. That’s why we’re making entertainer require as little configuration as possible! Feel free to test the water, and then decide whether you want to shell out $200+ for the AppleTV.

Setup seemed straight forward to me, only took about 15 minutes. I am running it on Ubuntu 8.04 without any problems. Apple ??? as big a corporate #$%!%% as MS, no thanks
